We here at SACtoday love a good live show, but what we don’t love is finding out that one of our favorite bands has come through the City of Trees days after the fact. With so many great music venues, it’s admittedly hard to keep up sometimes.
To make things a bit easier — and hopefully help you find a show you like — here’s a guide to Sacramento’s live shows for August broken down by genre, featuring everything from big-name artists like The Lumineers + Kendrick Lamar to local groups like Fashionista Boyfriend.

Is it humid here, or is it just us? The National Weather Service has predicted that the dew point — or the measurement of water in the air — will range between humid to sticky levels over the next few days due to “monsoon moisture” building in the Northern California region.
Legacy -
Legendary NBA player Bill Russel — the league's first-ever Black coach + one-time coach to the Sacramento Kings in the 1980s — died at the age of 88 on Sunday. “His immeasurable impact will continue to resonate both on and off the court for years to come,” said the Kings in remembrance. (Sac Bee)
Open -
Another one — or actually the first for Sac. DJ Khaled has opened up a ghost kitchen in Natomas that he’s dubbed Another Wing. It’s located at the Hilton Garden Inn and Suites, and serves flavors like “You Loyal! Lemon Pepper” + “Success Sesame Teriyaki.” 🐔(KCRA3)
Civic -
Feel confused by Sacramento’s recent redistricting? The city has put together a resource that helps residents find their district + representative following a new district boundary map brought on by “a significant increase in the city’s population.” Find out who represents your neighborhood. 🔍 (Sac City Express)
Development -
A new community of 77 single-family homes is on its way to the South Natomas neighborhood following the City Council’s unanimous support for rezoning an ~8-acre site from agricultural to residential use. Located at 920 San Juan Rd., the homes will be priced for “entry-level” buyers. 🏡 (Sac Bee)

The band is playing its biggest hit, "Cut Your Hair" | Video by Old Ironsides |
City Editor Matt here. Putting together our roundup of concerts in Sacramento today has made me think about what historical show I would have loved to have seen the most in the River City. It’s an easy one for me: Pavement at Old Ironsides in 1993.
The Stockton slacker-rock group have been called the greatest band of the 1990’s, and I would agree — I would even go as far as to say that they’re my favorite band ever. So to think that they played at a venue I’ve been to more than a handful of times makes my head spin. Yet as one of their songs soberly suggests, “you can never quarantine the past.”
Still, I can dream. What’s a concert you wished you hadn’t missed in Sacramento? Let me know. |
